Kalaripeyattu-The Indian Martial Arts

Kallaripeyattu is known as the oldest Martial arts that exists, it is the mother of all martial arts, history itself is an evidence for that.

Story of Origin-

The Vadakkan style of Kalaripeyattu is the very same Martial arts that महादेव taught Lord परशुराम. Lord परशुराम is known as 6th अवतार of श्री हरि विष्णु. During द्वापर युग, he taught this to 3 people including; गंगापुत्र भीष्म, गुरु द्रोणाचार्य And अंगराज कर्ण. Later at the beginning of कलियुग, he taught the Vadakkan style of Kalaripeyattu to 21 selected people from South India and went for Meditation, till the end of कलियुग. Those 21 people started training and teaching this to people. Later in 495 BCE, A king Named as बोधि धर्मन, who was an expert in Kalaripeyattu as well as आयुर्वेद decided to spread this arts to the world for the sake of mankind. He traveled to a place, which we today call as China. There he found sick people, dying of a pandemic. He cured them with his knowledge in आयुर्वेद and started training them. He taught them योग and when they were ready to learn, he taught them a set of moves from Kalaripeyattu, which we today know as Kung Fu. He laid the foundation of Shaolin Temple.

What Kalaripeyattu really is and how is it different from all other martial arts.

Kalaripeyattu is an art, that not only makes the body fit, but also builds up the self confidence. It does not teach violence, it teaches to control to anger grief and always stay calm, even in worst situations.

Unlike Kung Fu, Taekwondo and Other martial arts, which are limited to the use of some limited weapons like the Nunchuks, sword etc., combat training and meditation;
Kalaripeyattu teaches every art of living, it teaches to do everything with 100% efforts. It not only includes combat and weapon training, but also includes, mental training. It teaches to improve the quality of decision making, quick thinking, and all this by keeping the mind calm and focused, just like Stegnant water in a bowl. It teaches to fit in any type of environment.

All martial arts that exist today have taken the moves, which are taught in The Vadakkan style of Kalaripeyattu, since thousands of years. But the sad truth, Indians don't know about the greatness of our own culture. It really should make us all proud, that not only martial arts, medical science, योग etc. But everything, that exists in today's world has a link of its origin from Indian Sanatani culture.
